    diagram.website

You may have heard of the »small web« or the »poetic/quiet/cozy/slow web«. Away from the noise of the old web silos, smart people are publishing websites that rethink what the web could be and how it can be used in a healthier and more diverse way.

diagram.website is an excellent starting point for these lesser-travelled parts of the web. It is just a list of links with no extra explanation, but each link is a doorway to another world: essays, niche communities, experiments. Somewhere in between all this, I believe, the future of the web is forming…

  • Ghost implementing ActivityPub

The blogging platform Ghost is working on implementing social web functions with ActivityPub. They are talking about it very openly (and entertaining) on https://activitypub.ghost.org. I think they are the first to get this whole »Social Web« thing going in a way that is ready for non-techies.

Here is what they say in their newest post:

The biggest challenge of ActivityPub is that it’s too technical to easily explain to regular people. Nobody is interested in a jargon-laden diatribe about servers and federation. When simple questions have overly complex answers, people tend to switch off.

Our job, as product builders, is to understand the jargon and complexity of the specification ourselves, and then abstract as much of it away as we can so that end users don’t have to think about it themselves.

Exactly! I’m very excited how this will turn out.

mocha mousse is Pantone’s color of the year 2025

Let’s face it: Declaring a “color of the year” is a silly idea and nothing more than a marketing stunt from Pantone. But I cannot help, I am delighted by their choice year after year. I feel a little guilty for reading their shallow derivation and glossy imagery but here we are … hmmm, mocha mousse 🫠

  • Trying https://phanpy.social to post something on my blog.tilman.me. Does that work? Let’s be bold and also attach an image! What happens if I edit the post afterwards in WordPress?

  • Live from the Fediverse

I switched my blogging to this WordPress instance and dabble with pushing it into the Fediverse with the official ActivityPub plugin, the NEW address is now @tilman. I dropped the »social«, because »blog« fits better.

Is @tilman now my main Fediverse address? Does that mean I should drop my old @tilmn? Is this WordPress now my main Fediverse hub and must also handle my feed reading? I installed the Friends plugin which looks quite usable so far.

Exciting times, let’s see where this goes!

This is how my friends page looks so far.
  • It works!

This WordPress blog is now part of the fediverse. You can follow the posts by searching for “@tilman” on any ActivityPub capable platform, like Mastodon.
